This Thursday, enjoy an all Saint Arnold lineup at all three tasting locations

This month, we’re bringing you seven different Saint Arnold Brewing Co. selections as the brewery approaches their 2nd year as the official beer sponsor of Galveston’s beloved Dickens on the Strand event.

Tasting-goers are also invited to share in the holiday spirit of giving by taking part in Del Papa’s holiday GI Joe/GI Jane drive. Each tasting location will accept donations of nonperishable goods — including games, reading materials, personal hygiene products and snack foods — for military personnel based overseas. All tastings run from 5 to 7 pm this Thursday, November 20th and are free and open to adults ages 21 and older.

Here’s the lineup, Pint Jockeys:

SA Sailing Santa

• Saint Arnold Sailing Santa – Sailing Santa was born when Saint Arnold fans requested that they blend half a pint of Elissa IPA with half a pint of Christmas Ale. Saint Arnold took note, and after a few slight tweaks introduced this seasonal ale. The result is a spiced beer that is great to drink alone or with your favorite holiday foods.

Saint arnold christmas ale

• Saint Arnold Christmas Ale – A rich, hearty ale perfect for the holiday season with a malty sweetness and spicy hop character. The generous use of five different malts is responsible for the full flavor and high alcohol level of this beer.

Saint Arnold Elissa IPA

• Saint Arnold Elissa – A traditional India Pale Ale, the Elissa IPA is very hoppy with a properly balanced malty body. Elissa has huge hop additions in the kettle that give it a wonderful bitterness and is then dry-hopped in the fermenter to create the pleasant floral, hoppy nose. Saint Arnold’s reverse osmosis water makes the bitter very soft with no harsh notes to it.

Saint Arnold Icon Godl

• Saint Arnold Icon Gold – This golden slightly hazy beer has a nice creamy head with a lightly fruity aroma. The taste starts with a light hoppy bitter that carries through to the finish although never coming on too strong. The wheat malt provides a soft body that complements the hops while remaining light. The beer is highly refreshing with a nice hop finish that makes you want another sip.

Saint Arnold Endeavour

• Saint Arnold Endeavour – Endeavour brew pours a deep amber with a light, creamy head that is only the start to an extremely satisfying double IPA experience. The nose starts off with a touch of citrus, but then takes a turn into a flavor full of nectar and peaches. The hop bitter is quiet at the start, building to a much more impactful crescendo while maintaining a delicate balance even in its big finish.

ale_wagger_brown_bottle

• Saint Arnold Ale Wagger – A beautiful, deep copper brown ale. It has a full, malty body with hints of chocolate, a touch of sweetness and a light hop flavor. A complex malt character is created by combining five different types of malts. It has a rich, creamy head with a fine lace. The light fruitiness, characteristic of ales, is derived from a proprietary yeast strain. A portion of sales of Ale Wagger are donated to support local rescue organizations to improve the lives of animals.

SA santo bottle

• Saint Arnold Santo – The brewers refer to Santo as a “black Kölsch.” Essentially it is brewed using a Kölsch recipe with the addition of Munich and black malt. It is light bodied and floral yet with a distinct dark malt flavor. Santo is dark, yet refreshing.

All tastings are free and open to adults 21. Events take place this Thursday, May 15th from 5-7PM at the Del Papa Distribution Centers in Beaumont, Victoria and Texas City (addresses at the bottom of this post).

Beaumont, Victoria and Texas City will all enjoy the same beers so everyone read on for what’s in store!

Firestone Walker Double Barrel Ale – A tribute to English pales traditionally fermented in a cask, Firestone Walker’s flagship brew highlights barrel-fermented batches from their patented Firestone Union blended with beer fermented in stainless steel. It opens with a biscuity toasted malt aroma and a hint of oak and vanilla as pale malts create a smooth malty middle with ribbons of caramel, English toffee and toasted oak.

FW DBA

Firestone Walker Pivo Pils – A refreshing, light-bodied and hop-driven Pils, Pivo pours a bright straw colored lager beer with playful carbonation topped with beautiful white foam lace. Delicate, lightly toasted malt flavors underscore noble German hop character while Hallertau-grown Magnum hops deliver the lupulin foundation and generous amounts of Spalter Select hops bring floral, aromatic and spicy herbal notes. A twist on the traditional Pils, the brewers dry hop with German Saphir for a touch of bergamot zest and lemongrass.

FW Pivo Pils

Firestone Walker Union Jack –An aggressively hopped West Coast-style IPA, Union Jack showcases exceptional dry hop character with stunning pineapple, citrus and piney aromas on the nose accompanied by honey-like malt aromatics. Double dry hopping brings bold grapefruit, tangerine and citrus flavors that are contrasted by pale malt sweetness to balance this intense brew.

FW 3

Saint Arnold Divine Reserve No. 14 –The brewer’s goal with DR14 was to make a Belgian/American hybrid using West Coast American hops and rye to emulate the fruit and spices often found in Belgian beers. The beer pours a bright golden color and the nose boasts a mixture of phenolics from the Belgian wit yeast and light citrus from the American hops with a touch of graininess. Rye adds sweetness and complexity to the pilsner and aromatic malts while Cascade and centennial hops enhance the flavor and aroma, adding floral and citrus notes to play off the strengths of the yeast.

saint-arnold-divine-reserve-14

Karbach Hop Delusion – Loaded with Mosaic hops, this beer is an explosion of tropical fruit and resinous, dank aromas. Hop Delusion is medium orange in color and rather dark with a fine, bright white head and nose of delicious piney hops. The beer is full-bodied, sweet and hopped to the nines. Mixed in are hints of caramel and a bready maltiness that all blend together to create an almost candy-like taste that is somehow earthy and doughy at the same time.

Karbach Hop Delusion label

Goose Island The Ogden –The second beer in Goose Island’s Imperial Series, The Ogden is a dry-hopped Belgian-style Tripel named after Chicago’s first mayor, William B. Ogden (who also happened to own the city’s first brewery). The Ogden is aggressively hopped with a 9% ABV and 35 IBU. The hops rest comfortably with the Belgian yeast and malt to create a well-balanced beer with a citrusy and piney notes throughout/

Renaissance Cowboy – A “wee heavy” Scotch Ale, this brew pours a deep amber-brown with a light brown frothy head. The aroma is full of heavy malts with brown sugar, molasses and dark fruity notes. Texas City

Texas City, your tasting is all about variety this month, and what a mix do we have in store for you! Check it out:

Saint Arnold Icon Blue – This Brown Porter is a dark, medium bodied ale with rich chocolate malt notes. Icon Blue pours a dark brown color with ruby and garnet highlights, producing an off-white head. During the brewing process, the brewers used English malt hops and their own Saint Arnold yeast, also hailing from the U.K.

Karbach Summer Love Street – In the 1960s on Allen’s Landing in Houston sat Love Street, a hot spot of music and social impact. Love Street was not only a place, but a state of mind; a place to unwind and let the music refresh your soul. So too is this Kolsch-style beer, hopped delicately with floral German hops with a clean malt profile that refreshes to the core without sacrificing character.

Goose Island 312 – Inspired by the city of Chicago and densely populated with flavor, 312’s spicy aroma of Cascade hops is followed by a crisp, fruity ale flavor delivered in a smooth, creamy body that’s immensely refreshing.

Goose Island The Illinois – Illinois is a 9.0% ABV 95 IBU Imperial IPA that pushes the limits of hop flavor and aroma. It pours a deep gold color with a complex citrus aroma. The taste is balanced with a clean bitterness and a medium to full body.

Shock Top Honey Bourbon Cask Wheat – The latest addition to the Shock Top portfolio, this Belgian-style unfiltered wheat ale is brewed with honey, caramel malt and aged on bourbon cask staves for the perfect balance of flavor and refreshment all year round.

Rolling Rock – This premium extra pale lager is crafted using a time-honored recipe with only the finest malted barley and blend of hops. A classic American lager, as well-known for its distinctive, full-bodied taste as it is for its craftsmanship, heritage and painted green bottle, Rolling Rock is full-flavored with a subtle bite and a light to medium body and color.

  • White Chocolate Porter – What’s better than beer and chocolate? This rich, dark ale pours almost black with a nice tan head. You’ll notice coffee on the nose, while white chocolate flavors come out gradually as you sip, followed by a pleasing, hoppy-bitter finish.

Attendees in Texas City can also expect a stellar lineup, featuring six different brews from some of the best in the business including seasonals from Karbach and Saint Arnold, a Scottish ale from Rahr & Sons, pale ales from Rogue Ales and Goose Island and Dixie Brewing Company’s classic Dixie Lager. Check it out:

  • Karbach Barn Burner Saison – This beer is sure to get you thinking about Spring with its effervescent golden color and hints of citrus and spice. The brew uses a unique yeast strain and fresh Texas-grown grapefruit to give it a refreshing and zesty character, without sacrificing depth of flavor.
  • Saint Arnold Spring Bock – An authentic, German-style Bock, celebrating the coming of spring, this robust, deeply flavored lager has been aged to create a smooth, malty taste with a hint of sweetness. A light addition of German hops balances the malt flavor.
  • Rahr & Sons Iron Thistle – This dark, Scottish ale has a bold taste dominated by a smooth, sweet maltiness balanced with a low, hoppy bitterness. Rahr’s first-ever National Grand Champion winner, this one is sure to make you want to break out your bagpipes and lederhosen in      celebration.
  • Rogue Ales 7 Hop IPA – With a slightly hazy, golden-orange body, this ale boasts a foamy head and plentiful lacing when poured. Tangerine and grapefruit rind aromas are met with notes of spruce, caramel and bready malts while flavors are heavy on the citrus with other tastes of spruce, pine resin and herbal hops in the mix. The ale is nicely balanced and leaves behind a lingering bitterness.
  • Dixie Brewing Company Dixie Lager – Brewed all-naturally today as it was first brewed in 1907, Dixie Lager uses lightly roasted two-row barley malts and rice. The result is a crisp and flavorful beer with a mild Cascade hop finish. A century of New Orleans’ brewing tradition lives today in every bottle and keg of Dixie Lager.
  • Goose Island Ten Hills APA – Ten Hills American Pale Ale takes its name from the original planting of ten “hills” of hops a couple of years ago when Elk Mountain Farms first formed a business relationship with Goose Island. Today, more than 200,000 hills of hops are grown for Goose Island annually. A limited release, this ale has an apricot and tangerine aroma, tasting of sweet honey and toast and finishing with an earthy, herbal hop character.

And get excited Victoria, because your tasting is jam packed with an all Saint Arnold lineup (featuring their newest Bishop’s Barrel release, BB6!) and special appearance by founder and brewer Brock Wagner. How could you miss this? Here are the six beers we’ll have on deck for you:

  • Saint Arnold Bishop’s Barrel No. 6 – The latest in the brewery’s Bishop’s Barrel line, “BB6” is Saint Arnold’s Imperial Pumpkin Stout aged in rum barrels. The taste begins with sweet malt, chocolate and spices then comes a warming rum finish. Pumpkin creates a pleasant body to this beer which holds up to the onslaught of flavors. As it warms, all of the flavors become rounder and fuller.
  • Saint Arnold Fancy Lawnmower – This beer is crisp and refreshing, with a sweet, malty body balanced by a complex citrus hop character. The brew is light enough to be enjoyed by Texans after even the most strenuous of activities, like mowing the lawn.
  • Saint Arnold Santo – Saint Arnold considers Santo a “black Kölsch.” Brewed using a Kölsch recipe with the addition of Munich and black malts, it is both light bodied and floral with a distinct malt flavor.
  • Saint Arnold Spring Bock – An authentic, German-style Bock, celebrating the coming of spring, this robust, deeply flavored lager has been aged to create a smooth, malty taste with a hint of sweetness. A light addition of German hops balances the malt flavor.
  • Saint Arnold Elissa IPA – A traditional IPA, this beer is very hoppy with a properly balanced, malty body. Its huge hop additions in the kettle give it a wonderful bitterness and it is dry hopped in the fermenter to create its pleasant, hoppy nose.
  • Saint Arnold Endeavour – This double IPA is a deep amber color with a light, creamy head. The taste starts off with a creamy malt and the hop bitter starts low, building to a crescendo but always maintaining balance – even in its big finish. You’ll taste citrus and peach notes throughout.

There you have it, Pint Jockeys! We sincerely hope to see you at one of our three tasting locations this Thursday. All tastings run from 5-7PM and are free and open to adults ages 21 and older. Locations for all three tastings are posted below. We’ll see you there!

We’re kicking off the year with a bang, Pint Jockeys. Plus, we’re keeping the party going at three different Pint Nights after the tastings. Read on for all the details.

Texas Big Beer

At our Texas City tasting, we’re welcoming Texas Big Beer Brewery Brewers and Founders John and Tammy McKissack, in from their brewery’s self-sufficient, eco-conscious homestead in Buna, Texas as they join us to sample six different Texas Big Beer Brewery favorites including the following:

Big Texas Blonde – This Belgian Strong Pale Ale with a 10.54% ABV content pours an orangey-tan colored hue with a cloudy body. The aroma of this beer is full of bread, fruit and candy notes while the taste is equally complex and interesting with present flavors including dough, fruit, honey caramel and more.

Working Stiff Ale – Brewed in the style of an Extra Special Bitter and named for the “premium ales” of the working class in the London pubs in the 1800’s, this beer pours a copper color with a frothy white head. Aromas from this medium-bodied brew include caramel malts and floral hops and the taste is founded on a solid backbone of malt and earthy hops. The finish is smooth with moderate bitterness.

Beeriac IPA – An American IPA with a thick, hazy amber and copper-colored body that leaves a thick, frothy head with substantial lacing when poured. Beeriac’s aroma is full of orangey, citrus notes mixed with light pine notes, caramel sweetness and tons of hops. The flavor profile includes citrus tastes followed by sweet caramel flavors with a medium mouthfeel and carbonation.

Renaissance Cowboy – A “wee heavy” Scotch Ale, this brew pours a deep amber-brown with a light brown frothy head. The aroma is full of heavy malts with brown sugar, molasses and dark fruity notes. Flavors include much of the same, including sugary and fruity notes. The body is medium and thick with a sweet, malty base and sweet, smooth finish.

Texas Crude – This American Porter’s aroma is heavy on the vanilla with other hints of sweet chocolate and toffee. The taste is smooth with sweet malt and toffee flavors and a medium body with light carbonation. Bitter hop tastes follow through to a dry yet satisfying finish.

Czar of Texas – A Russian Imperial Stout, this ale pours an opaque brown-black with a heavy, cinnamon-brown head. The beer is extremely well balanced and in true Imperial Stout fashion, is packed with intensely malty, deeply roasted and fruity flavors. With the perfect level of intensity on the tongue, Czar packs both smoky and savory elements including baking chocolate, dried fruit and vanilla with a restrained sweetness that leads to a long and dry finish.

After the tasting, Texas City folks are invited to join us on the seawall at Beerfoot Beach Bar who is releasing their latest creation this Thursday. It’s an amber lager, and some of us Pint jockeys got to hang out with the Beerfoot Brew crew when they were making it. We can’t wait to try it. Special guests Johnny Max and Tammy “The Queen” McKissack will head there with us to tap their Big Texas Blonde and Czar of Texas and hand out Texas Big Beer Brewery glasses, while they last.

Pedernales logo

Victoria – we have got some GREAT things in store for you. Tasting attendees will have the opportunity to meet Pedernales Brewing Co.  Founder and President Lee Hereford, in from the brewery’s home-base in Fredericksburg, Texas, as they sample five different Pedernales favorites. Here’s your line-up:

Classic Hefe-Weizen – This classic unfiltered beer stays true to the Bavarian style with a strict yeast strain creating distinctive flavors of banana, apricot and clove. Light, cloudy and golden in color, this brew boasts a thick, frothy head and has received top marks at the Great American Beer Festival in Denver, CO.

Lobo Lito – A full bodied, true Reinheitsgebot quality Pilsner beer made using Pilsner malt barley, Weihensteffan yeast, Saaz hops and Hill County well water. Its slightly lower alcohol content and thirst quenching, slightly hoppy finish make it the perfect summer-time beer.

Lobo Lager – This pilsner beer starts with Texas Hill Country well water and Czech hops. Brilliantly crisp and clear with a dense foam, light golden color and subtle hop aroma. The flavor is a delicate balance of expertly malted barley and carefully selected hops.

Lobo Negro – A true “Dunkel,” or dark brown lager, with a spicy maltiness that is neither sweet nor too roastily dry. The lager yeast is worked at low temperatures, imparting a clean roundness and balance.

Classic India Pale Ale – The brilliantly clear, light copper color of this classic English beer denotes the specialized caramel malt used to give the ale a light toasted flavor. Classic NW American hops are used to balance the malty sweetness of the barley to provide a wonderful herbal aroma from this well balanced beer.

Stay tuned for your post-tasting event details, Victoria. We’ll post them on Facebook as soon as they’re confirmed!

Southern Star logo

Beaumont Pint Jockeys, you can also expect a great line-up and great special guests! Folks at your tasting event will have the opportunity to meet Southern Star Brewing Co. founder and brewer Dave Fougeron, in from the brewery’s home-base in Conroe, Texas and sample the following:

Bombshell Blonde – Brewed with American Pale and Vienna malts that combine to give this brew its distinctive smooth, creamy body. Just enough hops are added to this rich, golden-colored ale to perfectly balance its bready finish. Fermented at a cool temperature to give a clean finish.

Le Mort Vivant – This seasonal, French-style beir de garde is rustic, malty and complex. The ale displays subtle notes of baked apples and stewed pears in the nose and flavor. Hints of anise and delicate spice flavors accompany Saaz and Strisslespalt malts for a malty, satisfying finish.

Pro-Am 2013 Red Rye – This year’s Pro-Am is dominated by rye and caramel flavors. The color is a deep hazy copper/red and the aroma is spicy rye and complex malt with earthy hops coming in second.  Slight brandy like alcohol notes are detectable as the beer warms. Tastes of rye, caramel, spice and distinct stonefruit accompany a medium mouthfeel and carbonation.

Pine Belt Pale Ale – This American Pale Ale pours a deep copper color with a substantial malt backbone accented with British crystal malts with aggressive hop bitterness and substantial American hop flavor and aroma. The yeast profile is neutral, incorporating Galena, CTZ and Horizon hops and California Ale yeast.

Valkyrie – This Double IPA pours a pungently hoppy deep copper ale, taking its influence from the hop loving city of San Diego California where the hop varieties of the Pacific Northwest reign supreme. With two hop additions, copious amounts of Simcoe and Centennial hops give an aroma of marmalade jam and tangerine zest masking the 9.5% ABV underneath. On the palate the beer is dry but contains enough malt character to balance the dominant flavors of ripe grapefruit and candied citrus, finishing with a slight spiciness from the Columbus hops. Clean and crisp, hoppy yet deceptively balanced.

Ancestor Rauchbier – A smoked Lager in the style popular in the Franconia Region of Germany around the city of Bamberg, this ale pours a copper hue with an aroma of subtle yet complex campfire smoke and embers. The finish is balanced with a full-body malt flavor and hop bitterness.

Buried Hatchet Stout – This stout is dark brown in color with monster smells of coffee and chocolate. The taste is much of the same, with hints of creamy toffee and roasted malt. Smooth and delicious, this medium bodied ale is all about the malts, but has enough hop bitterness to be balanced.

After the main event, join Mr. Fougeron, the rest of the Southern Star Brewing Co. crew and your fellow Pint Jockeys at Madison’s On Dowlen for an all-Southern Star Brewing Co. tap takeover.

Phew – that’s a lot of info. and a lot to look forward to, Pint Jockeys! We could use a cold one after that. We’ll see you this Thursday – CHEERS!
