Soon it’ll be easier than ever to get your hands on Texas BIG Beer

This Texas Tuesday we’re saying an enthusiastic howdy-do to one of Texas’ newest breweries! That’s right! Just yesterday, Del Papa Distributing officially welcomed Texas BIG Beer to their extensive craft beer portfolio, which means the brews will be making their way into refrigerators across the Gulf Coast  in the very near future. The brewery has made quite a name for itself in and beyond its hometown of Buna, Texas, and we can’t wait to get a taste.

And while we can’t share too much about the flavor just yet, we can share an interesting fact about the brewer. The folks at Texas BIG Beer Brewery note that while their beers are BIG, their carbon footprint is small. Located on what will be five acres of a Self-Sufficient Homestead, their facilities are built, in part, to convert waste into food. Texas BIG Beer Brewery also plans to vent the carbon dioxide produced during fermentation into their greenhouse to allow the plants to convert that CO2 into oxygen. So, consider it your civic duty to pick up a six pack of your Texas BIG Beer favorite; by drinking it, you’re helping the environment.

The exact roll out date is still being confirmed, but expect to see the brewery’s staple Big Texas Blonde and new concoctions, Renaissance Cowboy and Texas Crude, soon! The beers will be distributed throughout Del Papa’s territory, which includes Brazoria, Calhoun, Chambers, Dewitt, Galveston, Hardin, Jackson, Jasper, Jefferson, Lavaca, Liberty, Matagorda, Newton, Orange, Sabine, Victoria and Wharton counties.

A Texas-size Beer Event

T.G.I. Tuesday, Pint Jockeys!

We’re only two days into the week but the promise of this weekend’s big event has us chugging through. We can’t believe it’s that time of year again, but the Galveston Island Oktoberfest is BACK! The event kicks off Friday, October 26 and lasts through Saturday the 27th at First Lutheran Church.

Offering live entertainment, Wurst Abendessen, kids’ activities, the annual German Kuchen (cake) bake off and, of course, lots of beer, it’s no wonder the two-day festival welcomes over 15,000 people each year.

We hear the libation lineup includes German selections from Hofbräuhaus, Paulaner and Beck’s. Stateside brews, including Saint Arnold, ZiegenBock, Bud Light, Budweiser and Shock Top, will also be available.

Because we know you’re there to have a good time, we’ve partnered with Yellow Cab Galveston to bring you an awesome new free app, HAIL A CAB™. The app allows you to literally hail a cab with the push of a button. And here’s the coolest part – using GPS, your phone will automatically let the driver know where you are (even if you don’t know) AND you can track how long it will be before your cab arrives.

If you don’t have a smartphone (or, like some of us, don’t know how to use one), you can also hail a cab the old fashioned way at the on-site taxi station. No matter how you hail one, Yellow Cabs will be readily available throughout the weekend for you and your friends to use to get home safely.

Attendees to sample Saint Arnold Pumpkinator and spooky seasonals from Rogue, Left Coast, Woodchuck and more!

It’s time for another tasting event, Pint Jockeys!  Join us in the Hospitality Rooms of Del Papa Distributing’s Texas City, Beaumont and Victoria distribution centers this Thursday, October 18 from 5-7 p.m. to sample Saint Arnold Pumpkinator and October favorites from Rogue, Left Coast Brewing, Woodchuck and Rolling Rock. Plus, Shock Top fans will be introduced to a bold new seasonal. All tastings are free and open to adults ages 21 and older.

The October tasting event will feature:

Saint Arnold Pumpkinator – Pumpkinator is a big, black beer full of spice and flavor. Originally released in 2009 as Divine Reserve No. 9, the imperial pumpkin stout soon became a Saint Arnold seasonal regular. Brewed at 10% ABV, Pumpkinator has a combination of pale two row, caramel and black malts; Cascade and Liberty hops for a background hop flavor; pumpkin for a rich mouthfeel; and molasses and brown sugar. One sip will remind you of mom’s homemade pumpkin pies.

Rogue Dead Guy Ale – A German Maibock characterized by a deep honey color and rich, full flavor. Dead Guy Ale is available in special 22-ounce and 64-ounce glow-in-the-dark bottles and is also available in six-packs and on draft.

Left Coast Voo Doo – Voo Doo is a full bodied, dark brew that is rich and malty with plenty of roasted barley character. This hearty stout is layered with flavors of roasted barley, chocolate, and coffee coming from the highest quality imported malts. Its creamy long lasting head completes the brew, tempting your taste buds to be spellbound.

Shock Top End of the World Midnight Wheat Ale – A bold new Shock Top seasonal, this wheat ale is brewed with midnight wheat, chocolate malt and chilies and delivers an indulgent flavor appropriate to celebrate the end of the world.

Woodchuck Special Release Pumpkin Cider –Woodchuck has combined its signature hard cider taste with a refreshing pumpkin finish for their Private Reserve Pumpkin Cider. Limited to just two and half hours on the production line, this is a true connoisseur’s cider.

Rolling Rock – This American-style Premium Lager is a light-bodied lager with a rich malt character. At 4.5% ABV, Rolling Rock has a distinctive taste and subtle hop character.

Saint Arnold Pumpkinator to hit shelves October 15


We got some very exciting news in our inbox this morning, Pint Jockeys! According to their weekly e-newsletter, the fine folks at Saint Arnold will be releasing one of our favorites and past Texas Tuesday honoree –Pumpkinator – next Monday, October 15!

According to Saint Arnold, this year’s Pumpkinator has been fermenting for over two months and is “spicy, malty and rich.” Plus, it just gets better with age, so enjoy some now and hold on to few bottles for later. (We’ll be saving one or two bombers for the Spring when we’re craving something that just screams fall.)

Word on the street is many stores will receive their shipments on Monday, though some may arrive later in the week. So be patient and help out your fellow craft beer lover; follow the Pint Jockeys’ Facebook page and let us know where you got your hands Pumpkinator. Photos are always welcome too! Rahr & Sons Texas Red


Happy Tuesday, Texans!

This Texas Tuesday we say hello to another Rahr & Sons favorite – Texas Red.

Texas Red is an amber lager with a balanced flavor. Our friends at Rahr say “the beer’s notes of caramel and sound malt character are perfectly balanced with just a bit of hops.” And its smooth finish makes the Texas Red incredibly drinkable. What more could you ask for?

Many have suggested serving Texas Red with your favorite pizza, but we actually suggest using it in your pizza! If you’re not ready to toss the dough in your own kitchen, Red also pairs well with Cajun, Caribbean, Thai and Indian foods (so really, it pairs well with everything).
