Pint Jockeys like beer

Who’s ready for Thursday already? We sure are! This month’s tasting events are not to be missed. Texas City – we’ve got an all-Karbach lineup for you PLUS a special appearance by Brewmaster Eric Warner. Victoria and Beaumont – your lineups offer a glimpse of all the goodness that’s to come in fall. Read on for the full rosters.

TEXAS CITY

Those looking to keep the fun going after the tasting can join Mr. Warner at Molly’s Pub immediately following the tasting (1600 W Main St, League City, TX 77573) where Karbach’s Hopadillo, Love Street, Weiss Vera and Rodeo Clown will be on tap. Weekend Warrior and Sympathy for the Lager will also be available in cans. Here’s your lineup:

Weisse Versa Wheat – A Belgian white, Weisse Versa combines the fantastic flavors of a Bavarian hefeweizen with an abundance of Coriander and citrus peel spices to create a beer unlike any you’ve ever had. Natural clove, nutmeg and banana aromas are all produced by a special Bavarian wheat beer yeast used in the brewing process.

Sympathy for the Lager – Brewed with a blend of pale malts and generous amounts of German noble hops, Sympathy for the Lager captures the best of both worlds: the clean, refreshing character of a Lager and the huge taste that craft beer drinkers deserve.

Weekend Warrior – This impressively hopped pale ale pours a nice light amber with an impressive off-white head. The aroma is piney with hints of grapefruit, while the flavor is full of citrus and bready malt. The mouthfeel is sticky and the aftertaste is full of hop resin.

Rodeo Clown Double IPA – This Double IPA has a 9.5% ABV and coats the tounge in bitterness upon the first sip. It packs a punch with intense dry-hops and five different malts.

Hopadillo IPA – This “Texas-style” IPA clocks in at 70 IBU and is brewed with a combination of American, English and German hops. Copper in color with ruby highlights, the beer has a strong citrus aroma with hints of earthiness and spice from the added European hops. Dry and quenching, Hopadillo is dry-hopped for added aromatic intensity.

Hopadillo Negro Black IPA – This Black IPA pours a dark black with a light tan head. An aroma of dark roasted malts and earthy, citrusy hops finds you on the first sip, with a flavor profile full of malts and earthy, citrus hops. This beer has a medium body with a sweet and bitter finish.

VICTORIA

Hofbräu Oktoberfestbier – For the special occasion of Oktoberfest, German brewer Hofbräu brews a rich, full-bodied beer which goes down ideally with traditional Bavarian cuisine. With its deliciously bitter taste and alcoholic content of 6.3% volume, Hofbräu Oktoberfestbier is as special as the beer festival itself.

Ziegenbock logo

Ziegenbock – Only available in Texas, this American-style amber lager offers notes of roasted grains in the aroma and a sweet, smooth taste with a hop finish. The select imported hops and specialty malts create a taste worthy of a 2006 Great American Beer Festival Bronze Medal.

Sam Adams logo

Sam Adams OctoberFest – Sam Adams’ version of this classic style blends hearty malts for a deep, smooth flavor with notes of caramel creating a brew that’s perfect for the season, or whatever you’re celebrating.

Sam Adams Porch Rocker – Tart & refreshing, this unique summer quencher is a twist on the Bavarian Radler, named for cyclists that originated this drink.  Traditionally a mixture of beer and lemonade, the brewers take the combined the crispness of a golden Helles lager with a blend of lemons to create a fresh squeezed tangy taste perfect for the long yet fleeting days of summer.

Angry Orchard logo

Angry Orchard Green Apple – This cider has a bright, fresh apple aroma, with notes of honeydew melon and kiwi throughout. Green Apple boasts a tart blend of a lively apple flavor and a perfectly balanced sweetness with a 5% ABV.

Saint Arnold Dry Hop Amber – A twist on Saint Arnold’s flagship Amber Ale, this version is dry hopped with Liberty hops. Known for their soft, floral character, the brewers used Liberty hops in the finishing process to produce a slightly more intense aroma and flavor profile.

Saint Arnold Amber – A well balanced, full flavored, amber ale. It has a rich, malty body with a pleasant caramel character derived from a specialty Caravienne malt. This beer has a complex hop aroma, with a hint of floral and citrus comes from a combination of Cascades and Liberty hops.

Firestone Walker logo

Firestone Walker Wookey Jack – A unique twist on the Cascadian Dark Ale style, Wookey Jack offers true hop aroma to rival most IPAs, with pungent citrus and herbal hop nuances, a hint of peppery rye and earthiness on the nose.  Big roasty malt flavors with balanced hop bitterness and spicy rye offer a full and complex texture with a refined bittered finish.  A truly different IPA for dark beer fans.

Texas City, Beaumont and Victoria to enjoy selection of new brews and warm-weather favorites

Pint Jockeys logo

This Thursday marks the Third Thursday of April, Pint Jockeys, and you know what that means – it’s tasting time!

The April 18 Pint Jockeys craft beer tastings will take place from 5-7 p.m. at Del Papa’s distribution centers in Victoria, Texas City and Beaumont. All three tasting events will feature the below lineup of spring and summer seasonals, plus a few classics. All tastings are free and open to adults ages 21 and older.

Saint Arnold Divine Reserve 13 – The newest in Saint Arnold’s Divine Reserve series, 13 is a Belgian Quadrupel. The aroma is distinctly Belgian with a hint of fruit, while its simple malt bill allows the caramel and chocolate malts to come through. Large amounts of Belgian Extra Dark Candi Syrup darken the color and impart dark, fruit-like flavors. Its aftertaste is slightly sweet and dry.

• Sixpoint Sweet Action – Part pale ale, part wheat, part cream ale, Sweet Action is a simple representation of what makes beer great: the marriage of barley and hops. The barley malt will coat your tongue like honey while the hops brush your palate clean with every sip.

• Southern Star Bombshell Blonde – The American blonde ale has a rich, creamy golden color with flavors of yeasty bread coupled with a touch of hops. Now available in 16 oz. cans, this fan favorite is fermented at a cool temperature to give it a clean finish.

May Tasting Events to Feature Samuel Adams, Southern Star and Left Coast Brewing Company

As you probably know by now, the Pint Jockey like to mix things up from time to time, which is why the May tastings will be a little bit different than the events you’ve enjoyed in the past. Rather than highlighting several beers from a variety of brands, this month, we’ll take an up close look and get to know one brand and its different offerings at each location.

We’ll have Southern Star in Texas City, Left Coast Brewing in Beaumont and Samuel Adams in Victoria. So, no matter which tasting you plan to attend, there’s some really good stuff in store. Here’s a little bit more on each of the events:

  • In Texas City, the event is all about the bombshells! This tasting will feature an in-depth look at the Southern Star Brewing Company portfolio, makers of the ever popular Bombshell Blonde. Located in Conroe, Southern Star has been brewing delicious all canned craft beers since 2008. In addition to the brew, attendees will enjoy an extra treat with a sneak peek at the 2012 Galveston Island Beach Revue and “Bands and Bombshells” concert. There’ll be appearances by some of the 2011 Bathing Beauty contestants and the chance to purchase tickets. The concert, which will feature beverages from Southern Star Brewing Company and performances by the John Evans Band and The Gourds, is scheduled for May 18, 2012.
  • Over at the Beaumont Tasting, the Pint Jockeys will serve up samples of Left Coast Brewing Company, a recent addition to the Del Papa Distributing Company portfolio. Left Coast is an independent brewery located in San Clemente, California since 2004. A note to all of you hopheads out there – this brewery prides itself as being one of the pioneers of Double IPA style craft beer.
  • Last but not least, the Victoria event will offer samples of Samuel Adams’ offerings. The Sam Adam’s brewery, located in Boston, Massachusetts, debuted its first brew, the Samuel Adams Boston Lager in 1985 and has since won more awards around the globe than any brand in history. Pretty impressive stuff.

Just a friendly reminder- these events are always free and open to the public ages 21 years and older. Tastings start at 5 p.m. and go until 7 in the hospitality room of each of the Del Papa Distributing locations. For exact addresses, visit our Facebook event.

If you’re looking for something to do tonight, feel free to stop by the Del Papa Distribution Centers from 5-7pm for a special salute to veterans. The company is hosting a complimentary toast with patriotic-themed Budweiser bottles to raise awareness of the “Folds of Honor Foundation” and “Walk off a Hero” program benefitting the families of veterans and active military. It’s not craft brew, but it sure is a worthy cause.

Hope to see you soon!
